Church Marketing: Reaching out to the lonely

Yesterday was my birthday.

My kids brought me homemade cards and breakfast in bed. My wife made a delicious cake (chocolate with a peanut butter filling).

I was blessed by many friends on Facebook who posted well wishes and notes all day long on my wall.

In addition, I received several phone calls throughout the day. My parents. My grandparents. My cousin.

Those notes and conversations made me feel very special.

And I thought: There are people out there who aren’t as blessed as I am. They don’t have friends and family who call. They don’t get a cake on their birthday. Or a homemade card.

You probably know some of these people. A widow, maybe. Or a young man who is estranged from his family. A divorced husband. A friend who has fallen away, embarrassed to reach out to her family or friends.

Maybe you should call her. Maybe you should send him a handwritten note of encouragement. Maybe a chocolate cake.

It doesn’t have to be a birthday. Just an impromptu connection to show the love of Christ.

Your thoughtfulness might make a bigger difference — and be a bigger blessing — than you you can imagine.

How do you reach out to the lonely in your community?
