In James 1:22-25, Jesus’ brother writes:
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it–he will be blessed in what he does.
The message is pretty simple.
Hear God’s word.
Do what it says.
Be blessed.
But we make it too hard.
So often we Christians deceive ourselves by believing that KNOWING God’s word is as far as we need to go in our walk of faith.
James tells us we need to DO IT too.
We need to obey God’s commands.We need to show love to others. We need to share the gospel. We need to humble ourselves and serve our neighbors.
